More Wierd Library Dreams...

So I had another odd work-related dream last night. Though it was quite long, there is a kicker in it. I was closing the library while it was very busy. I was unable to shout that we were closing to the patrons and security came to run them all out. The lights automatically turned off and not all the patrons were out of the building.

Some people were leaving and the lights came back on to have light for the patron's sight. Two students came up to the front counter where there were small pots of cacti were in packaging. There was a spray bottle filled with water to give moisture to the cacti setting upon the counter. One asked if they were for sale. I responded, "No, I do not have the means of accepting cash. Please check back later." Meanwhile, the other student took one of the cacti and then started to distract me while the asking student took one.

I came around the counter, looked at them and said, "Look, dudes. I know what you are doing now please put them back." After some hesitation and argument they placed them back on the counter. Then they tried it again. I grabbed the spray bottle of water off the counter and started to spray them with water, as if they were cats that were misbehaving. They were shocked and put them back and started stealing them again. I started to yell, "SECURITY!" with no response and then woke up.

RSS Goodness

So, this morning I suggested that we add RSS feeds to the library homepage so that students who utilize RSS can get quick updates on our new items that I enter. It was started and finished today, how exciting! There of course is still the option to browse by type and period as well as receiving monthly e-mail updates.

Sheila's Farwell Party

Modified Jeffersons Theme in Honor of Sheila’s Promotion parody by. Library Folk

Well she’s movin’ on up,
To the North side.
To a deluxe office in IT [eEeE].

Sheila’s movin’ on up,
To the North side.
She finally got a piece of the website [iight].

Links don’t work without data;
Servers don’t hum without skill.
Took a whole lotta testin’
Just to get up that hill.
Now she’s up in the IT’s
Gettin’ her grove on back!
As long as you’re bootin’, it’s you and the net,
There ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Well she’s movin’ on up,
To the North side.
To a deluxe office in IT [eEeE].

Sheila’s movin’ on up,
To the North side.
She finally got a piece of the website [iiiiiighiiite].

Work Related Dreams...

I had a dream right before I woke up and it was about me working at the library. I was in our study lounge which was just a tiny bit different than how it is really set up. In our temporary quarters, the patron goes through a set of doors to enter and in that room there are three television monitors with a DVD/VHS player hooked up. On the opposing wall there is a line of shelves. There is an opening into another attached room, where in my dream, had computers set up along all four walls. The real set up of the two rooms was about the same the televisions and shelving was the same but in the attached room there are study carrels that line the walls instead of computers.

I went into the computer portion of the study room to answer a technical question which is usual in my line of work. After I had finished helping the patron I proceeded to leave to return to the desk. As I was leaving a lady watching a VHS on one of the televisions grabbed me and asked:
Patron: Where is the F7 key?
Me: Ma'am, that is a television and not a computer.
Patron: But I need to print this picture for a presentation in five minutes!
Me: Unfortunately, we do not have the equipment to print a frame of a VHS tape, you may be able to buy that sort of equipment but we do not have it.
Patron: But, I really need this now!
Me: Well Ma'am, you can go see Ms. Jane at the reference desk and she can possibly find you something printable online that you can use for your presentation.
The lady was looking at a color the number comic book that we had pulled from one of our shelves it had an example page already colored. The video I assume was on comic books or around the same topic.

When I woke up I researched the importance of the F7 key, the result was odd.

F7
The F7 key does not have any functionality in Windows. It may, however be used in some individual programs. To find out if it is available in the program you are using, bring up the program's help screen and type in the words function key.

Halloween Pimpin'

So my co-worker and I pimped out the library for Halloween 2007. It took three hours to produce but, I think it turned out very well. Everyone has complemented it so far and we only just did it on Saturday. I hope the director will like it because we were suppose to put up the decorations tomorrow on Monday. It would have been much to hard with all the student activities that Monday brings. It was a lot of hard work but it will be a rockin' Halloween this year, like last year when the decorations came out very well. We just didn't document it :(.

Play 2 Learn

My parents are doing this Play to Learn thing for work and my mother is driving me up the wall with it. In essence, what the Lee County Library System is doing with Play to Learn is a fairly positive thing. It is teaching their employees how to utilize Web 2.0 applications online to eventually teach them the relationship between these services and how they affect Library 2.0. I just hope my mom starts to understand Blogger. Of course, I am still learning Blogger but, I find it to be fairly intuitive like any other Google application and service.
